Secrets from the Middle Ages
Pescocostanzo, a medieval village in Abruzzo’s Majella National Park, lies at an altitude of 1,400 metres between mountain peaks. Its historical centre, with its cobbled lanes and grey stone houses, retains an atmosphere of times gone by in which to lose yourself and be fascinated. Its characteristic facades and flowery windows create a charming and unmistakable setting.
The main square, Piazza del Municipio, is the beating heart of the village. On the opposite side is the Church of Santa Maria del Colle, a jewel of the 13th century. The square, surrounded by historic buildings and cosy cafés, offers its visitors a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. Not to be forgotten are its craft traditions, in particular bobbin lace, goldsmithing and specifically filigree and wrought iron work, which make a visit to the village unique.
In Pescocostanzo, the link with the tradition of cattle, sheep and goat breeding and the processing of dairy products is still alive.
